sigma Prize for Outstanding Contribution 2009

sigma is delighted to announce the names of the winners of the sigma prizes for outstanding contributions in the field of mathematics and statistics support 2009. There was a strong field of nominations for the UK prize and the panel decided to award two personal prizes of £1000. For the purposes of the sigma prizes, mathematics and statistics support refers to activities and/or resources which are provided to support and enhance students' learning of mathematics or statistics (in any one or more disciplines, at any level of higher education) and which are provided separately and in addition to traditional lectures, tutorials, examples classes, personal tutorial sessions etc. The spirit of the prize is to recognise, reward and celebrate outstanding contributions in this field.

The 2009 winners are:
Janet Robertson, Senior Lecturer, Maths Learning Centre, De Montfort University, Leicester UK.

Chetna Patel, Maths and Statistics Support Manager, Maths and Statistics Help Centre, University of Sheffield, Sheffield, UK.

The awards were presented at a ceremony at the CETL-MSOR conference in Milton Keynes on 7/8 September 2009.

Both award winners will be named: sigma Outstanding Contributor 2009.

The Panel would like to express its appreciation to all nominees and their nominators, and to extend its warmest congratulations to the prize winners. Further details about the work of the winners will be published in due course.
