Sigma - Supporting Excellence - Structuring Progress

Both Loughborough University (LU) and Coventry University (CU) are acknowledged leaders in the field of university-wide mathematics support. They have impressive track records, both individually and collaboratively, of providing exceptional mathematics support services, UK-wide and international dissemination activity to benefit those in other HEIs, leadership and key roles in relevant national projects.

A collaborative bid was submitted to HEFCE as part of their Centres for Excellence in Teaching and Learning programme.  This bid was successful and, in 2005, we received the award of a collaborative Centre for Excellence in Teaching and Learning (CETL) in the provision of mathematics and statistics support – sigma – which is funded at £500,000 per annum for five years.  Capital funding totalling £2.35m was also provided in Years 1 and 2 of the project.
