From 2005 – 2007, sigma provided funding to the University of Leeds to help them establish mathematics and statistics support provision through their Skills Centre. Opening July 2005, the Mathematics Support Centre is based in the Skipton Skills Centre which currently offers wide-ranging advice and support for student learning. This Support Centre provides drop-in support and a wide range of mathematics resources including networked PCs for student use along with mathtutor / mathcentre resources.
Activities include:
- providing drop-in facilities,
- providing a range of mathematics support materials,
- delivering targeted support with specific groups of students, and
- promoting the service via workshops, the Skills Centre website, publicity leaflets and departmental lectures
It is a testament to the hard work and dedication of those involved that Leeds University now centrally funds this provision.
