The overall aim of the funding provided to Sheffield University is to develop the pilot Maths Skills Support Centre into an established, sustainable resource. Opening for the start of the 2007/08 academic year, the Maths and Statistics Help (MASH) Centre is providing face to face support for maths and statistics to individual students at the point of need, with accompanying print and online learning resources.
Operating as a drop-in and resource centre on Tuesdays (3.15 – 5pm), Wednesdays (2-5pm) and Thursdays (4-7pm), the service is centrally located on campus (D11, Hicks Building). Each session is staffed by two postgraduate tutors, (including one statistics tutor on Wednesdays and Thursdays) and most sessions also have an academic present. Whilst primarily targeted at Science and Engineering students at this developmental stage, the facility is open to students from all faculties.
